Spalletti: "Our shape is good but we must up the tempo"

Luciano Spalletti took stock of the positives and the areas for improvement after Napoli's 4-0 win over Pescara.

“I saw some good things in this game but we need to keep raising the tempo little by little,” the coach explained.

“We need to improve further and we have to keep our shape as a team, as we have been doing. Keeping possession is important and we're trying to play the ball forward more quickly too.

“We have a tendency to play the ball very quickly even when we don't need to sometimes, but in these friendlies I've seen a team that's very careful and doesn't get caught on the counter. That's important, especially in games like these friendlies.

“We haven't reached full tempo or full fitness yet but that's normal after all the work we've put in. The international players are finding their fitness now too. They're all getting there but we have to be ready for bigger challenges now.”

The boss then commented on rumours linking Lorenzo Insigne with a move away, as well as potential incoming transfers.

“Lorenzo knows what he's capable of and he shows it every time he steps onto a football pitch. He's a winner who lifted the European Championship at Wembley a month ago and he's not affected by any transfer talk.”

“We'll bring in another player or two to complete our squad but it's a difficult transfer window to do business in. We have several competitions to play and we want to challenge on all fronts. When you play for Napoli, you must pull on the shirt with the aim of doing it justice. Our fans deserve success.”
