Amir Rrahmani has confirmed that Napoli are eyeing a fast start when the 2020/21 edition of Serie A TIM gets underway later this month.

“We’re working very hard to start the season strongly,” the Kosovan told Radio Kiss Kiss on Thursday. “Things were great in Castel di Sangro – training was very intense. We’re coming to the most important stage right now. In football there is no yesterday, only today and tomorrow. We need to maintain the intensity and perform well in our next two friendlies, then prepare for Parma on the opening day.”

Rrahmani mainly played in a back four at Hellas Verona last season, but the defender stressed that he is willing do play anywhere required for his new club.

“My natural position is in a back four, but we’re professionals and I can adapt to any system the coach wants to play,” he said. “Right now with [Gennaro] Gattuso I’m playing in a back four and I feel very comfortable. Gattuso is very alert to the one on ones – we play zonally so you need to be ready to face up to your opponent in the individual duels when the time comes.”

Fellow new recruit Victor Osimhen has made quite the impact in his early run-outs for the club – and Rrahmani confirmed that the squad has been impressed with the Nigerian’s form so far.

“Osimhen has made a great impression – I’m sure he can go on to achieve big things,” he said. “Having said that, we have lots of quality players in attack. I think we have a competitive team and I’m sure that with hard work we’ll strike the right balance on the pitch.”

Rrahmani went on to identify Champions League qualification as the aim for the season ahead.

“We definitely want to qualify for the Champions League,” he said. “That’s where this club and this city deserve to be. We hope to achieve it, but it’s a long way off and we need to make sure we’re ready for the start of the season, then progress in every game.”
