Andrea Petagna has spoken of his joy at having joined Napoli and how determined he is to succeed at the club.

Having completed his move to Naples this summer, the former Atalanta and SPAL man impressed with a goal and two assists on his first appearance in a Napoli shirt in the recent friendly against Pescara – earning applause from the fans.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, he admitted: “I'm really pleased about that and I hope to make them happy when the real matches start. I love it here. I've only just joined but I feel at home already. It's really motivating when you're playing with top-quality players. We have a big squad with lots of competition and that's important if you're aiming for the top.”

Could this be the season you really establish yourself?

“I like to keep my feet on the ground. I've worked hard to get where I am and now I'm honoured to be playing for a top club like Napoli. I really want to score goals and keep on improving. I'm thrilled to be in this city.”

You've known Gennaro Gattuso since you were a youngster at AC Milan. What's he like now?

“Gattuso is such a great bloke. I knew him as a player and now I'm seeing him as a coach and he's got the same grit and determination. That's something I try to emulate because I see him as a role model. Whether I play the whole game or just one minute, I'm here to do my bit for the boss and the team.”

What are your best attributes?

“I think I'm at my best when I'm playing with the team and opening up space. I've improved my finishing but I still have a long way to go. This is the perfect team for me to develop my game in lots of ways.”

What was your first impression of Naples?

"I couldn't wait to get to know Naples and from the few trips I've made by taxi I've already seen what a beautiful city it is. Besides the beauty of the land itself you sense so much energy from the people. My first impression has been excellent.

“The club believed in me and now it's up to me to show what I can do. I might have come here in January but I'm here now and I can't wait to get started.”

What's your personal target?

“My personal target is the same as the team's – to try to finish in the top four so that we can get back in the Champions League. We'll try to do well in the Europa League too of course – that's important to us.

“I think I have what it takes to fight for a shirt while learning from the great players here at Napoli. As I said, competition helps you improve. I'll accept whatever decisions the coach makes. I know what I have to offer and I'll do everything I can to help the team.”
