Before anything else, Dries Mertens paid credit to his partner-in-crime Lorenzo Insigne after the latter’s worldie opener against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Stadio San Paolo.

"Lorenzo scored a great goal that gave us the energy to win," the Belgian enthused after the match. "It was as important a strike as it was brilliant because it broke the deadlock and gave the side a boost.

"I’m happy for Lorenzo and happy for ourselves because we deserved this victory."

Mertens believes it’s too early to write off Napoli’s chances of advancing in the Champions League.

"The team showed tonight that we’re want to get out of the group and we’re confident we can do it," he continued. "We still believe and now we want to end this stage with another top performance in the Netherlands.

"Manchester City are an amazing side and I think they’re aiming to top the group on full points, which would be a huge achievement for them.

"In the meantime, we’ll focus on ourselves," Mertens concluded, "and give everything against Feyenoord to get the three points."
