Ancelotti: "We deserve to go through"

Carlo Ancelotti praised his team for progressing in Europe thanks to a 4-0 win over Genk, but also reflected on the disappointing league form in recent weeks.

"We deserved to go through. This side has real quality.

"We've consistently performed well in a far-from-easy Champions League group. It's a shame we haven't managed to replicate those displays in the league. We've shown our mentality and bravery on the European stage, but haven't done so in Serie A as of yet.

"It remains the case that when we express ourselves as we've done in the Champions League, we can compete with any side in Europe.

"We've taken a big step forward by achieving our first big target of the season. It's a shame that we're so far off the pace in the league, but I'm sure that this squad has the strength to bounce back.

"[Arek] Milik was a big loss when he was out of action for a while. He's our striker and the type of attacking player this team needs. He showed what he can do tonight and just how important he is to our attacking play."

In terms of the coach's future, Ancelotti stated, "I'll speak to President DeLaurentiis tomorrow and we'll make the best decision for Napoli. As far as I'm concerned, with certain players coming back and the right conditions in place, this team can still target fourth place.

"The win tonight is a weight off our shoulders and can give the players a big boost for the future."
