Albiol wants to keep Liverpool vibe going at Sassuolo

The defender spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss

Beating Liverpool was a big confidence boost but now the focus must switch to winning another tough game at Sassuolo, says Raul Albiol.

The Napoli defender was speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss between Wednesday's thrilling Champions League victory at the San Paolo and Sunday's visit of Roberto De Zerbi's side.

“Champions League nights like that are fantastic,” Raul admitted. “It feels great to beat a team like Liverpool and it motivates you to keep on improving.

“We limited a side who are very strong in attack to just two shots and credit must go to the whole team, not just the defence. Wins like that are great for confidence but it needs to be a habit.

“Obviously we believe we can get out of the group. We believed before the match and we believe even more now. It's going to be very difficult because we have two top-level sides in our group but we know we can give anyone a game.”

Do you feel a bit of regret about the game against Juventus?

"We do, yes, because we started the match really well, then we made a few small mistakes which they seized upon. We could have equalised even after going down to ten men and that tells you we were always in the game.

“It's a shame about the result but there are loads of matches left to play and everything still to play for. We just have to focus on one game at a time, starting with Sunday, when we have a very tough fixture.

“Sassuolo are really well organised and they can cause problems even for the big teams. It's an important test for us and not an easy one. We have to keep winning games and if we want to do that on Sunday we'll need to be strong and focused.”

The centre-back also spoke of his joy at returning to the Spain squad under Luis Enrique after a three-year hiatus.

“I'm happy because it's been a difficult period for Spain. Now there's been a shake-up and I'm glad to have been included in the squad.

“I owe a lot of it to Napoli – the work I'm doing here and the good performances.

“I want to do the best I possibly can at Napoli because [Carlo] Ancelotti has come in with big plans and I believe we can go a long way in every competition."
